Captain McFinn’s Swim and Play app
Disclaimer: This post is part of a sponsored campaign for Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play App. I received compensation for my participation, but my review and opinions are my own.
My boys love apps and are always on the hunt for something new in the app store. I told them I had a new app for them to check out and they couldn’t
wain’t to try it out.
Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app is a unique app that features live, interactive guided play plus it focuses on social and emotional connections. I downloaded the app & handed the iPad over for the boys, Avery (4 years old) & Tristan (6 years old) to begin to explore Captain McFinn’s underwater world. The first step is to
choose a swimmer fish and type in your nickname. It is pretty simple to move your fish through the underwater world by just moving your finger along the screen. There are a number of interactive points to tap on and animations to activate throughout the water world. The boys love the cause & effect animations especially when they are really able to interact and manipulate the characters all the while learning and practicing politeness, playing as a group and respecting others.
The games section of the app, kept the boys engaged for quite a while. Their two favorite games are: “Who Will I Be” where they mixed & matched clothing/costumes to create fun outfits and “Muncha Buncha Lunch” an interactive storybook that teaches about table manners. The games range in themes from helping friends, being creative and problem solving in social situations.
There is also a video section of the app with a library of videos that feature animated and real life characters. The boys enjoyed watching the videos which tackle lots of preschool issues: sharing, self control, manners, bullying, meeting new friends and being yourself. There are also a number of videos with some Fun Facts about underwater creatures which they share with everyone they come across.
Captain McFinn’s Swim & Play app is definitely not your average app. It actually teaches & helps
preschoolers to interact socially at a time in their lives that they are becoming more social, and will find themselves in any of the situations presented. Through these interactive games and videos preschoolers are able to have a better understanding of what it really means to be a good friend to all.
