High Strung Movie
Disclaimer: This is a compensated post. All opinions are my own.
My boys love playing their violin and cello as well as dancing and creating their own original music and matching choreography: music is an integral part of our daily lives. Movies that integrate the two and tell an inspiring story are few and far between. High Strung is a PG movie that tells the story of two extremly talented people from very different backgrounds. These two individuals, Ruby Adams (Keenan Kampa) a dancer on scholarship to a prestigious NYC performing arts school from the Midwest and Johnnie Blackwell (Nicholas Galitzine) a British musician who plays his violin in the subway for money, form an unlikely duo competing together in a competition to prove themselves to everyone. With the assistance of The Switch Steps, Ruby and Johnnie perform an unforgettable routine that combines hip-hop, contemporary, classical dance and an original violin piece that wins over anyone who ever doubted their talent.
There are a number of positive themes throughout the movie that will inspire and motivate viewers to pursue their dreams and believe in themselves. Perseverance, focus, determination and respect are just a few subjects that the movie touches upon. Pursuing your dreams and supporting the dreams of others are also important ideas throughout the film.
My boys were captivated by the violin music, the beautiful ballet dancing, the upbeat hip-hop numbers and followed the story from start to finish. They especially enjoyed the scene where Johnnie faces off with Kyle (Richard Southgate) in a “violin off”. This is a movie that they definitely want t watch again!
