My Boy and his American Girl Dolls
Disclaimer: I was not compensated for this post.
My husband and I have always been on the same page when it comes to the types of toys our children play with. We do not label them according to gender and have encouraged our boys to play with and explore whatever toys make them happy. After my oldest son turned two, he was always drawn to dolls; he “adopted” one of my own dolls from my childhood as his own. He would dress it, feed it and care for it. As he got older, he asked for a doll he could bathe with and I found him one for his 4th birthday.
For the past year, he has been obsessed with American Girl Dolls, picking out dolls and accessories from the magazines that are delivered to our house and researching exactly what doll and accessories he needs. We surprised him with a set of American Girl Bitty Twins (girl & boy with curly hair just like his): he was truly ecstatic. He immediately named them Leo & Caterina and began to care for them. He truly enjoys being a caretaker and is pretty attentive to his dolls; he feeds them, changes them, puts them down for naps and even takes them out with him.
My husband and I are proud that our son has decided to embrace his nurturing side. Because all this practice will help him be the best dad he can be in the future. Does your boy play with dolls?
