Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is Amazon’s new original kids series for school-age kids and families and the first series from Academy Award-winning film studio Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle), will premiere on Prime Video on Friday, January 27!
The animated adventure series is narrated by Golden Globe Award-winning actress Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), directed by Gorō Miyazaki (Up on Poppy Hill, Tales from Earthsea), and presented by Studio Ghibli and Saltkråkan (the Astrid Lindgren Company). The new production is based on the wildly-popular children’s fantasy book of the same name by noted Swedish author Astrid Lindgren (“Pippi Longstocking”), which has sold approximately 10 million copies worldwide and been translated into 41 languages and adapted for film and television internationally.
Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter is the story of 10-year-old Ronja, who was born on a stormy night in a mountain fort, surrounded by her mother, father and a beloved band of robbers who double as her immediate family and protectors. Ronja grows to be a strong girl and explores the forest around her, discovering that it is both a place of beauty but can be frightening due to some of the strange creatures that live there. The episodes illustrate how Ronja begins to mature and understand her role as a friend and as a loyal daughter. Check out the trailer below:
