Technology is everywhere and we come in contact with it daily, it’s really unavoidable these days. Going tech free or minimizing your use of technology has to be a conscious decision and it is extremely important to balance screen time with real time in all of our lives.
Cricket Media, Inc, and Parents’ Choice Foundation just launched a hub for families who want to “balance, not ban” technology called KEEPING TECH IN CHECK.
The struggle to mindfully monitor screen time, especially for my children is a constant juggling act for us. The Keeping Tech in Check website offers resources, activities and free printables to assist parents with creating meaningful nonscreen time as well as helping create and implement goals/rules for your families’ media use.
In our family we have times set aside during the day where we put our devices down and just “play” together. That time is spent going to the park/playground, playing board games, coloring, building, cooking or just hanging out in the play room. I think it is pretty important for my little ones to see their parents “giving-up” the technology and engaging with them.
