LeapFrog LeapStart ($39.99) system is an interactive learning system that gets kids 2-7 years old excited about learning: vocabulary, math concepts, problem solving, and more with a variety of fun activities. My two youngest boys, ages 2 & 5 have been using the LeapStart system independently and adding lots of new school skills to their repertoire.
Their are 4 levels of books available for the LeapFrog LeapStart system:
- Level 1-Preschool
- Level 2-Pre-Kindergarten
- Level 3- Kindergarten
- Level 4-1st Grade
I started my 2 year old on Level 1 and he really enjoyed interacting with the system instead of simply completing a traditional workbook. He has a slight speech delay with some articulation issues which sometimes make it difficult for us to understand him. When using the LeapFrog LeapStart system, he listens and attempts to repeat the sounds and words he hears which has helped him practice letter sounds.
I started my 5 year old on Level 4, since he would be starting 1st grade in the Fall. I am extremely satisfied with the content in the books at this level because he is learning new fun facts as well as reinforcing the knowledge he already has.
Both boys have been using the LeapFrog LeapStart system weekly for a few months and there has been some growth in both of their vocabularies. My 2 year old walks around making letter sounds and my 5 year old is now filled with fun facts about various countries around the world…he has even learned some greetings in different languages thanks to the LeapStart. I especially like that this is a device that I can use with multiple children and it can grow with them through the leveled books plus it is durable and has withstood my toddler!
