This winter is turning out to be a COLD one and instead of hiding out in the house, we are going to get out and enjoy the cold. Weather as much as we can! Our family ski trip to the Mount Snow Ski Resort in Vermont was our first official Ski Vacation of 2019!
Our family of five joined several other Influemcer families for an unforgettable Momtrends Ski weekend hosted by Ski Vermont & Mount Snow. There are several lodging accommodations at the resort: Grand Summit Resort Hotel, Snow Lake Lodge, Bear’s Crossing Condos, The Deer Creek Condos, which is where we stayed and a number of additional options within many price ranges. The 3 bedroom condominium we stayed in has more than enough room for our family with five beds, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room plus a pull-out sofa and even a working fireplace. As soon as we arrived, the boys claimed their bedrooms and made themselves comfortable.
I loved the kitchen option where we could have made meals if we had brought our ingredients with us or purchased them at a nearby store. However, we did bring some snacking necessities, juice boxes, milk boxes that kept everyone happy. We even packed little snack bags for in between ski runs. The condo was fully furnished with a cozy feel and the living/dining room area was warm and inviting. We were even able to spend some quality family time watching movies and playing some of the board games available.
The boys were signed up for a full day of Ski School (9:45am-3:30pm). After checking us all in and picking up our ski lift tickets and ski rental tickets, we checked the four year old in for his day of Snow Riders camp (for 4-6 year olds) where the instructors took him and picked up his rentals for him. Throughout the day, he was out in the snow with a small group of other snow boarders who were grouped by ability. They took breaks together and were served lunch. They even offer half-day of Cub Camp for 3 years olds to introduce them to skis or snowboards.
For the two older boys (ages 7 & 9), I took them to get their equipment then took them outside to the designated areas for their classes. Mountain Camp is for skiers ages 7-14 and Mountain Riders is for snowboarders ages 7-14. There are half day and full day options available for both. Their day consisted of learning and practicing new skills on the snow, taking the lift as well as taking breaks and having lunch with their smaller groups.
With the kids dropped off, we had the option to take our own Learn to Ride class, a 2 hour introduction to snowboarding for ages 13+ which started at 9:30am, 11:30am or 1:30pm. We decided on the 11:30am snowboarding class and all we had to do was make sure we had our equipment, lift tickets and show up at the lesson area.
For hubby and I, this was our first time on snowboards and we had a blast! I used muscles that have been dormant for many years. Our instructor, Rob, was extremely thorough, first he had us practice our body position off the board. Then we did some exercises with only one foot strapped in and finally tried some moves with both feet strapped onto the board.
During our 2 hour lesson, we focused on developing some of the basics of snowboarding, which hubby seemed to master after a few pretty hilarious falls including his most memorable tree fiasco. After lots of laughs and attempts at staying upright on the snowboard, I managed to complete a frontside turn and not end up on the ground, so in my mind, I was successful! Plus, we had some fun-filled couple time on the slopes.
After picking up the boys from their full days of ski school, they still wanted to go back out on the slopes and practice what they learned, so we found a nice quiet area where they were able to show-off their new moves! The snack bags I packed that morning came in handy as they wanted to take some snack breaks by the fire.
Our first family ski weekend of 2019 at Mount Snow Ski Resort was a huge success: we skied, we snowboarded, we ventured into the outdoor heated pool, snow tubed and created & captured dome pretty great winter family vacation memories!
