Rising New York Road Runners Spring Youth Races

many people do not know that I used to run track when I was younger. I was always very active and enjoyed my time on the track. So, after I completed my first half marathon in 2018 as part of Team For Kids, I have tried to keep up being active and running. Rising New York Road Runners has a number of family friendly events and even youth races throughout the city for children ages 2+ which is a great way to introduce them to the sport! And, now that Spring is in the air, it is the perfect time to get them outside and running!

Rising New York Road Runners events are designed for every level of youth athlete, from younger runners new to the sport to competitive teen athletes looking to break the finish tape. Events are organized in three stages, each based on physical activity, competitiveness, and age, so everyone participates in events that best fit their comfort level.

  • Stage 1 for ages 2-8, noncompetitive, untimed shorter distances
  • Stage 2 for ages 8- 18, noncompetitive, untimed medium distances
  • Stage 3 for ages 12-18, competitive, timed, longer distances

My boys participated in their very first Rising NYRR race at Van Cortlandt park in the Bronx. Just like an adult race, they checked in, received their race bibs and even got a souvenir water bottle! There were various fitness activities before the races began and the boys ran, stretched and jumped around with other racers. The start times were staggered by gender and age group. They had a great time running and finishing to each receive a ribbon to remember this race day. They are absolutely excited to race again and I have totally signs them up for MOST of the other races!
