Calling all Pokemon lovers…the new Detective Pikachu movie is in theaters now and it is sure to entertain trainers of ALL ages. My boys are novice Pokemon enthusiasts but truly enjoyed the film and seeing some of their favorite creatures come to life on the big screen! This movie inspired us to create our own Pokeball sun catchers for our windows in hopes of catching our own Pokemon!
Materials:
- small grater
- red and white crayons (big toddler crayons are easier to grate)
- black Sharpie marker
- craft tray
- wax paper
- scissors
- ruler
- coin
- a couple sheets of copy paper
- iron
First grate some crayons using the small grater. Collect and separate the shavings in a craft tray (you can also create crayon shavings using a pencil sharpener). Grate the white crayon first to try to avoid mixing the colors.
Take a sheet of wax paper and fold it in half, open it and use a coaster (or can) to draw a circle using the black Sharpie marker on one side of the wax paper.
Use a coin and trace a smaller circle in the middle of the larger circle.
Using a ruler and black Sharpie to draw and color in the middle lines of the Pokeball.
Carefully sprinkle some of the red crayon shavings on the top half of the circle.
Then, add some of the white crayon shavings to the bottom half of the circle and to the center circle. Then carefully fold the wax paper over the outline.
Place a sheet of copy paper on the ironing board, then carefully place the folded wax paper on top and finally add another pete if copy paper on top. Use a low heat setting on the iron and place the iron on top of the copy paper to melt the crayon shavings. Do not move the iron around, simply place and lift the iron around to make sure the shavings melt.
Remove the wax paper from the sandwiched copy paper and let cool for a couple minutes. Finally use a scissors to cut out the Pokeball sun catcher and find a sunny window to place it in.
