Whenever I head out of town, I am usually most excited for 3 things: food, cocktails and pool time! So, when I headed out to Austin, TX for the Mom2.0 conference, I packed lots of swimsuits and asked around for some restaurant recommendations! Since, I was staying at the JW Marriot Austin, I wanted to made sure that my food options were in walking distance or a quick cab ride away. I will say that I ate LOTS on my trip to Austin and here are three of my favorite spots close to the hotel.
The Corner Restaurant is conveniently accessible through the hotel lobby and they served delicious food from breakfast straight through to late night bar bites. I was quite surprised at how good the food was since I considered it to be a hotel restaurant. I definitely ate several meals here and loved the breakfast options, like the egg white and avocado taco with pico de gallo, three cheeses, quinoa and salsa verde. I believe I tried most of the tacos on the menu, all of which were pretty yummy.
The meat fest I had at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que was filling and flavorful. It is less than a five minute walk from the hotel…really on the same block. We were so excited that I believe we tried most of the meat including: pork ribs, brisket, pork loin, sirloin, sausage and pork chops as well as a couple of sides! The food at this cafeteria style restaurant was exactly what I environ when I think of BBQ!
Uchi, a contemporary Japanese dining restaurant is a short cab ride away from the hotel. This place gets pretty packed, so I was urged to make a reservation before I even got to Austin. This was truly a unique dining experience where we enjoyed delicious innovative food combinations. The menu, is set up to allow diners to order small bites and get the chance to taste many items. It seemed that we ordered a little of everything from rolls, to sashimi to hot dishes and we left feeling very satisfied.
