The newest Disney live action movie, Aladdin, takes you on a reimagined fantastic trip through the land of Aghraba, following the adventures of Aladdin (Mena Massoud). This adaptation of the animated classic, combines the nostalgic songs reusing by the new cast with some brand new tunes that will keep everyone singing well after the movie is over. My boys (ages 4, 7 & 9) and I absolutely LOVED the movie and our favorite character is definitely the Genie (Will Smith) who kept everyone smiling throughout the film! This movie is definitely a MUST SEE and a SEE AGAIN for the whole family!
After seeing the film, my boys wanted to create their very own genie magic that they would be able to enjoy at home, so we came up with a fun Genie Lamp Craft!
Materials:
- empty bottles
- Rust-Oleum Mirror Effect Spray Paint
- Sharpie marker
- Blue fairy string lights
- hot glue gun w/glue sticks
- self adhesive rhinestones
- newspapers
- First, make sure that the labels have been completely removed from the bottles. I used a baking pan filled with water and three tablespoons of baking soda, placed the bottles (half filled with water) label side down and soaked for about 45 minutes then easily peeled the labels off.
2. Spread newspaper to cover your work area, I suggest working outside to avoid filling your indoor space with paint fumes. Completely spray the bottle with the mirror effect spray paint, let dry then apply a second coat. You do not want the bottle to be completely opaque. Let dry completely.
3. Carefully thread the fairy lights into the bottle and attach the light control switch to the back of the bottle using the hot glue gun.
4. Decorate the bottle with the adhesive rhinestones using dots of hot glue to attach the stones.
5. Use the Sharpie marker to write a magical message like “Make A Wish” on the front of the bottle. Place new Genie Bottle Lamp somewhere special and turn it on to experience some magic!
