Mom took me on a trip to Pittsburgh and I had way more fun than she did visiting Kidsburgh! This was our first time visiting and I learned so many cool facts. Pittsburgh is the city of bridges and is home to 446 bridges! We visited lots of places, did some sightseeing and ate LOTS of delicious food! These are my favorite places that all kid are sure to enjoy and have to visit when in Pittsburgh!
- Kennywood is a traditional amusement park and reminds me of a cross between a county fair, amusement park and entertainment center. It was founded in 1898 and the Jack Rabbit, on elf the older roller coasters was built in 1921 and I got the chance to ride it.
Before you get in the park, there is a booth where you get measured and get a stamp on your arm that shows how tall you are and what rides you will be able to get on.
We were gifted some Kennywood dollars that work justice real money. I used it to get food, a slushy and some candy at the gift shop.
Thomas Town is filled with familiar destinations from the island of Sodor including five family friendly rides and a life sized Thomas the Tank Engine. Flynn’s Fire Training was my favorite ride in this section but watch out when spraying the water hose…you may get a bit wet!
2. The National Aviary is America’s only independent indoor nonprofit zoo dedicated exclusively to birds. It is home to more than 500 birds representing over 150 species from around the world.
I really enjoyed the open walk through areas where the birds were flying freely, it was like walking into the rain forest! There are even opportunities to hand feed some of the bird with an expert.
I even flew like a pterosaur through the Jurassic period as part of the Birdly virtual reality experience. I was able to fly above the clouds, dive and explore the terrain by ;king o the simulator chest dow and using my arms as my wings.
I highly recommend a visit to the National Aviary and be sure to visit the penguins and pop in for their feeding!
3. Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh is the perfect way to spend a day being creative, active and get lost in a world of interactive exhibits. There is so much to do from exploring the world of Eric Carle, connecting to nature in the garden, getting curious with Curious George, build things that go in the garage or even get wet in the waterplay area!
The Makeshop is a place to mess around with materials and tools, play with ideas and make things together. It is the perfect place to invent a one-of-a-kind simple machine or piece of art. I created a fun lineup of circuits that actually worked!
