A trip to Pittsburgh is fun for the whole family with lots to see, do and experience…BUT the food is definitely a MUST. We ate at quite a few places during pour trip and here are five of our favorite, family friendly places to grab a delicious bite to eat!
1.Potato Patch Fries are the signature fresh cut fries made from quality Idaho potatoes at Kennywood Park. This is one of the most iconic “meals” at any theme park!
The topping choices include cheddar cheese, bacon, vinegar, brown gravy and a variety of seasoning salts. I barely shared my order with my family and it was exactly what I needed to refuel during a day at the park.
2. Double Wide Grill is a Pittsburgh-born-and-bred original, featuring barbecue, vegan and vegetarian foods, over 40 draft beers on tap and a full bar. There are three locations that are filled with some cool decor…including the cool menus on license plates.
My little BBQ lover immediately decided on the BBQ platter that featured tasty ribs and sides while I opted for one of the TV dinner trays that comes in a metal divides tray…just like a retro TV diner!
3. Waffles INCaffeinated offers unique, delicious and artistically plated dishes prepared from scratch using a variety of ingredients. You can create the waffle of your dreams at this place by choosing your own mix-ins and toppings.
Whether you are feeling for something sweet or savory…there truly is something for everyone here. The “Souther’ Waffle” is a waffle filled with spicy chorizo sausage, fresh jalapeños and cheddar cheese, topped with fresh pico de gallo, a fried egg (your way) and garnished with fresh cilantro.
4. Burgatory is a friendly little joint that makes some of the best burgers and shakes you’ve ever had. They don’t serve frozen processed stuff but instead work with local dairies, growers, butchers and bakers to create delicious food.
The burgers and thick shakes can be customized just the way you want it with a variety of side options and even the salads are a hit! There are a couple locations in and around the city.
5. Pamela’s Diner have been serving the BEST breakfast in Pittsburgh since 1980! There are about five locations scattered across the city. Each location’s menu is filled with delicious selections including their crepe style pancakes!
I really enjoyed the Pittsburgh Hash (Lyonnaise potatoes, mixed with kielbasa & sauerkraut topped with swiss cheese) at the Strip District location.
