Parenting IS tough and getting away for kid-free weekend may seem impossible but planning a weekend getaway close to him is a great option for busy parents who just need a little break. We decided to head to Philadelphia, PA for low key weekend to relax and celebrate hubby’s birthday. The drive was under two hours and we enjoyed not having to repeatedly remind anyone to keep their hands to themselves as we often do when the boys are in the car. Since, this was supposed to be a relaxing getaway, we chose not to plan anything in advance and simply create our itinerary based on how we were feeling in the moment. The Go City App allowed us the flexibility to loosely plan an itinerary without fully committing.
We have visited Philadelphia previously always with a particular event to attend or a friend/relative to visit but this time the plan was to sleep and sightsee at our leisure. The Go City Explorer Pass allows you to choose 3,4,5 or 7 attraction passes and take your time visiting each one as once the pass is activated, it is valid for 30 days. There is also options for an All-Inclusive (choose the option of 1, 2, 3 or 5 days) or Build Your Own pass. There are over 35 attractions, tours and experiences to choose from in the Philadelphia area ranging from cultural institutions, bus tours, walking tours, cheesesteak and even a nearby winery tasting.
Once the Go City app was downloaded on my phone, I was able to easily browse attractions and even sort through destinations based on specific categories, I even found a “No Kids Allowed” Dark Philly adult night tour that peaked our interest. The Go Philadelphia Explorer Pass also gives you free access to several attractions in the city.
Of course we ran up the 72 famous “Rocky” stairs at the Philadelphia Museum of Art before heading in to check out some of the famous exhibits by Renoir, Monet, Manet, Degas, and Cézanne in the European Art galleries.
The Dark Philly Adult Night Tour was a perfect kid-free option for us! We joined about a dozen other night adventurers for an entertaining and very educational tour visiting several sites around the city led by a history professor. Our guide was quite knowledgeable about the bone-chilling history of the city which included vampires, ghosts, pirates and torture and we left with some pretty extraordinary facts about the city and some of its prominent figures.
Of course, no visit to Philadelphia would be complete without enjoying a cheesesteak! A visit to Campos Cheesesteak located in Old City Philadelphia is one of the options on the Go City Philadelphia Pass where you get a traditional Campo’s Cheesesteak with a side of Herr’s Chips, plus a Peanut Chew and a bottle of water.
The Go City Philadelphia Pass is a great option to really enjoy the city of Philadelphia on your own time, planning visits to attractions on your own time. A couples only weekend getaway to fit in some history, entertainment and relaxation is exactly what every couple needs!
