Rainy days call for great tunes and some Science fun! My boys absolutely love Science experiments and music, so we combined a lesson about rain clouds using a Beat Bugs book about Rain, some classic “Beat Bugs” tunes for background music and a super cool simple Science Experiment making rain clouds in tubes!
Materials:
- Beat Bugs Rain book
- Educational Insights GeoSafari Jr. Jungle Crew Lab Set
- Mason Jar
- Shaving Cream
- Blue food coloring
First, we put a mason jar outside to collect some rain water since it was raining but you could just use water from your sink too. Next, we reviewed our “Rain Cloud in a Tube Experiment” worksheet and came up with a hypothesis.
After our hypothesis, we began our experiment. We filled both test tubes about 3/4 full with rain water. Next, we added some drops of blue food coloring to the smaller tube, this would be our “rain”. Then, we sprayed some shaving cream on the top of the bigger tube, this would be our “cloud”.
Using the pipette, we began adding drops of blue “rain” to the top of the “cloud”, making sure to count aloud until we saw the blue “rain” break through the bottom of the “cloud”. Observe what is happening and draw a picture of the experiment on your worksheet.
Be sure to note how many drops it took before it began to “rain” in your tube! How did you do? Was your hypothesis right or way off?
