Boombastia! Onward has become one of the boys favorite movies to watch; we saw it twice in theaters and now at least once a week since we have been in self-isolation. They have memorized the magic spells and go around all day casting spells on each other and household objects, so I decided to create a magical staff craft for the next movie night. This craft makes use of old nail polish you may have around to create some pretty cool marbling.
Materials:
- wooden pencil
- mini fairy lights
- orange chenille sticks
- DIY clear plastic ornaments
- duct tape
- orange nail polish
- warm water
- bowl
- scissors
- glue gun
First, pour warm water into a bowl, add some nail polish into the water then immediately dip the outside of the ornament into the mixture (it will create a marbling effect) that dries very quickly. It is easier to separate the ornament and do the sides separately.
Place the ornament sides down to dry completely and move on to the next steps.
Cut one orange chenille stick into 3 even pieces. Remove the eraser from the pencil. Cut a piece of duct tape and lay the pencil and chenille sticks down like the picture below.
Wrap the duct tape around the pencil to secure the chenille sticks to the pencil.
Put a set of fairy lights into one side of the ornament.
Close the ornament, leaving a piece of the fairy light wire out.
Use a glue gun to secure the ornament to the part of the pencil where the eraser was.
Use the glue gun to secure the chenille sticks to the ornament .
Use more duct tape to secure the fairy light switch to the pencil and TADA…you now have your very own magical wizard staff to enjoy the movie and cast some spells! “And I think with a little bit of magic, you can do almost anything.”
