Did you know that Albert Einstein had a sad parrot, Ernest Hemingway had a lucky cat, Salvador Dali had a painted cat, Frida Kahlo had a fawn or that Charles Dickens had a talking raven? The book, Pets and Their Famous Humans written by Anna Gallo and illustrated by Katherine Quinn is book that is sure to create lasting impressions that will help readers of all ages identify historic figures and share stories of their animal friends!
After reading through the book, we decided to make a craft to create “Grip”, Charles Dickens talking raven. This is an easy craft to make, all you need is a printable coloring page of a raven, newspaper, scissors, glue stick and a googly eye.
First print out the coloring page of the common raven from Super Coloring pages
Next cut the newspaper into strips and then again into small triangles of different sizes.
Then, start gluing and layering the triangle newspaper feathers from the bottom of the raven and make your way up to the top.
Continue layering the newspaper feathers until the raven’s body is fully covered. make sure not to glue the whole “feather” down so it will appear to be 3-dimensional.
Once you are all done placing the newspaper feathers on the raven, glue on one googly eye to complete your craft!
Now you have your own animal companion to read the rest of the book, Pets and Their Famous Humans to!
