Holidays are always a time of celebration and gratitude, but sometimes they can be a bit stressful. This is especially true when you want to make Thanksgiving dinner for your family and friends, but do not have the budget or the ingredients readily available. In this blog post we will go over some creative solutions to help solve these problems with alternatives that can work just as well as traditional dishes we all know and love.
Tis the season for Thanksgiving! But if you can’t find a turkey or cranberry sauce, or they are too expensive this year, don’t worry. There are plenty of alternatives to Thanksgiving dinner that will still be just as satisfying. Here are some food ideas that will have your stomach growling before you know it.
Roasted Cornish Hen, who says your Thanksgiving meal has to feature a turkey? How about roasting some Cornish hens (1 for every 2 guests). Cornish hens are relatively very easy to find in your local grocery store and are much cheaper and easier to prepare than a big turkey. All you need to do is clean off your cornish hens, season with lemon, salt, pepper and herbs and place in the oven for about an hour until cooked.
Homemade Cranberry Sauce is a simple three ingredient creation: all you need is 4 cups of fresh cranberries, 1 cup of sugar and 1 cup of water. Bring these ingredients to a boil while constantly stirring until the mixture becomes jam like.
Chicken Pot Pie is an American classic comfort dish made with chicken, carrots, peas and potatoes in a cream soup base topped with crescent roll dough crust – all baked together until crisp on top but warm inside!
Orange Salmon is a great protein alternative that is easy to make and delicious too!
What about meatballs? They are not only easy to make but they are gluten-free, grain free and Paleo friendly if you leave out any cheese topping. They would go well with any of the Thanksgiving side dishes that you already eat.
Roasted Brussels sprouts are becoming very popular as an alternative to cranberry sauce at dinner time because they’re simple yet flavorful enough so everyone will love them – even those who don’t usually like brussels sprouts! Simply rinse, dry, toss in olive oil, salt, pepper and some spices/herbs of your choice, roast and enjoy! This tasty dish works well with any meal or just on its own as a healthy snack..
A vegan yam casserole has delicious flavors of brown sugar, pecans and cinnamon mixed together with sweet potatoes and topped off with maple syrup, making it a perfect Thanksgiving side dish for any vegans or sweet potato lovers!
Mashed potatoes are probably one of the most popular dishes to make around Thanksgiving time but if they don’t fit in your budget there are plenty other options like cauliflower mashed potato casserole which turns out just as flavorful and creamy but way healthier too.
Homemade chicken soup made with rotisserie chicken, fresh vegetables and herbs works great as a starter or warm course to your Thanksgiving dinner.
We know macaroni and cheese may not be at the top of many people list when thinking about what kind dinner foods would be great on Thanksgiving, but my family and I love a good macaroni and cheese anytime of the year! It’s creamy and delicious with a crunchy topping of buttery seasoned breadcrumbs.
Pumpkin pie can be really expensive around Thanksgiving time – unless you make it yourself using fresh pumpkin puree from any leftover Halloween pumpkins instead of canned pumpkin which makes all the difference in taste. Use frozen pie crusts to make an easy and delicious desert.
Don’t forget a festive cocktail, like this Sweet Winter White White Cocktail made with Jam Jar!
